Dried Jackfruit Recipe - Chakka puzhukku

For preparation

  1. Dried Jackfruit - 250 g
  2. Coconut - ¼ - ½ cup (shredded)
  3. Jeera ( Cummins)- 1 pinch
  4. Green chilli - as per your spice preference
  5. Garlic - 2 cloves ( 2 pieces )
  6. Turmeric powder - a pinch
  7. Water -half glass

For seasoning

  1. Any vegetable oil ( preferably coconut oil) - 1 tbsp
  2. Mustard
  3. Shallots - 2 to 3
  4. Dry chilli - as per your spice preference
  5. Curry leaves 

How to cook it

👉Soak the dried jackfruit in water for half an hour 

👉Squeeze out all the water from it, keep it aside in a thick bottomed pan 

👉Grind coconut with jeera, green chilli, garlic, turmeric powder coarsely with a pinch of salt ( don't make it into a fine paste, it should be coarsely ground)

👉Put this above the soaked jack fruit in the pan and leave ( don't mix it)

👉Pour some water ( half glass of water for 250 grams of dried fruit) and cook till soft and no more water is left in the pan

👉 Switch off the stove, mash and mix everything well

👉 Take another pan, pour 1 tablespoon oil, splutter some mustard, add finely chopped shallots, curry leaves and dry chilli and saute till it's golden brown, add this to the cooked and mashed jackfruit mixture

👉 Your cooked jack fruit is Ready 💃

Serve hot. Goes well with Chutney and  non-veg curry as well  😋

Notes - use coconut oil for optimum taste
